I am here and I vow to be completely present!

Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and Welcome to the years final month in the first quarter.

Please forgive me, I went awol. Been trying to balance this new schedule of mine. I started this new job during the first week of the year and totally manifested my current lifestyle. It wasn't easy, hence my hiatus. Let me tell you about what the journey was like and where I'm headed.

Last time I made a post was when I was on the ship, three months ago. When I resigned from my position on board, it was one of the toughest decisions I had to make, considering what I’d left behind for it. Since 2014 I'd been trying my hand at working for a very well known beauty supplier, iykyk. Finally after 5 years of endless applications and interviews, I got through. It was one of the best jobs I ever had, but something had to give, and it was my desire to travel. I missed the #shiplife, so I did want I needed to do for that to happen and after 9 months of working for this well established beauty supplier, I go the offer to head back out to sea. Unfortunately, the 2 month mark hit during my contract and I was ready to get out of there. I didn’t want to think of myself as a quitter, having only completed 1/3 of my contract but, I needed to make space for what I really wanted. I felt like the cabin walls were holding me back.

Since being back I’ve been working on a few projects I like to [internally] call my plant babies. Seeds were planted but I wasn’t taking care of them, now giving those ideas some much needed TLC they’re starting to grow and I couldn’t be happier. This is want I'm up to;

The Soul Of Calypso Travel Club

This has been a project in the works for about 3 years and I'm finally able to give it some sunlight. When I graduated from high school in 2011, I went on to study in the Hospitality and Tourism Admin program at Centennial College with an Advanced Diploma. I’ve since had many positions in the industry, one notably being working on a cruise ship for a total of a year and some months. I did step away from this career path for a few years to pursue the beauty field, but travel had remained apart of my life. One thing that a lot of my travels had in common was, Caribbean carnivals. It is with great pleasure that I present to you @thesocatravelclub. SOCA is defined by its inventor as the ‘Soul of Calypso’ which is where that genre of music was derived from. At Soul Of Calypso Travel Club, we aspire to create a unique, luxurious, stress free travel experience for our travellers. Sit back and relax while we organize your trip. We partner with local property owners to ensure a beautiful and clean place to stay. Partner with reputable mas bands for you to enjoy the road experience with. We are also your connection to the best events taking place during your trip. How will you get from one fete to the other? Or to your villa from the airport? Transportation is also arranged for you. A driver will be assigned to your group for the duration of your trip. At The SOCA Travel Club the goal is to provide you with a travel experience you’ll get to enjoy without having to sweat the small stuff. Providing secure, reliable service with keeping the community in mind. A travel experience with everything at your fingertips. Your connection to carnivals and festivals alike across the world. With this baby at the forefront, it'll give me a chance to talk about it here at CruisingCocoa.com.

Mawu Mas Creations

This venture I didn't see coming but it doesn't surprise me. I've always been a creative individual and helped in and around carnival mas camps since I was young. Things never took of until 2017 when I ran into an old family friend who actually needed some help building is section for a Toronto section he had. Since then he's been my "Mas Mentor"from helping every summer to working together through out the year developing my skills to bring to you Mawu Mas. Mawu [pronounced MAH-woo] is the Goddess of Creation in African (Dahomey) mythology. We specialize in custom wire bras, accessories and complete carnival ensembles. It’s a family affair! Yes, my momma out here pitching ideas too.

Glo' With Cocoa

Ya'll know I've been on my beauty thaaang! In 2017 I graduated from Avola College with an Esthetics Diploma, Electrolysis Diploma, and a Medical Esthetics Certificate. That education has really opened doors for me in developing another stream on income, a side hustle if you will. Yes I am no longer working for that popular beauty supplier but I have been able to secure a position that actually allows me to utilize my Medial Esthetics knowledge. I now work for a local face spa franchise, that specializes in everything the neck up. We offer a variety of face waxing services, facials and specialty face treatments. You could see what the latest is going on in the boutique at @glowithcocoa.

Thank you for checking in on me! The love is very much appreciated. I'm writing this as the world is going to shits with this CONVID-19 pandemic and travel junkies KNOW how this is affecting business. I've been receiving emails from various travel suppliers in regards to their stance on this matter. I will be back with some info on what this mean for the travel industry and how to go about your travels in the next few months.

Thank you for reading,

…keep Cruising with Cocoa :)
